Autocad - Dimension

Creating and Saving a Dimension Style

We can get most information from drawing just by looking at it but we won’t know everything unless we dimension it. Dimension is very important to convey information which have clear and accurate dimensions.

There are many ways to dimension a drawing and each of them has its own rules. E.g a drawing of gear would use a different style of dimensioning than that of a subdivision.
A dimension style is a named collection of dimension settings that controls the appearance of dimensions, such as arrowhead style, text location and lateral tolerances. We create dimension styles to specify the format of dimensions quickly and to ensure that dimensions conform to industry or project standards.

A few things that we have to remember :

· When we create a dimension style, it uses the setting of the current dimension style.

· If we change the setting of dimension style, all dimensions in the drawing use the style update automatically.

· We can create dimension substyles for specified types of dimensions or any deviation from the current dimension style.

· If necessary we can override the current style temporarily.

To set the style of dimension: Select the Dimension dropdown menu and choose the Dimension style. Here we can select the appropriate arrows styles and the dimension style from the list.
